Local Area Information

We at Evermill SL consider the most relevent local information to be that about the new infastructure taking place.
By this we mean the new motorway connecting the provinces of Almeria and Granada. This we believe will have a substantual positive effect on the area. The journey times and accessability to airports, beaches, major cities and other places of interest will be reduced considerably and employment is expected to rise.
To give you some idea, at pressent it would take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive from the village of Somontin to the beach at Mojacar, when the motorway is fully open the same journey is expected to take 40 minutes. Not only doe's this mean more time on the beach and less in the car it also makes the area a lot more desirable as it brings it within the magic "no more than an hour from the beach".
Somontin itself we be approximately 6 kilometers from the motorway, so although you will have the convienience of it you wont have the eye sore, which can't be said for many of the developments along its route.
Unlike many things you hear about in Spain the construction of this motorway is not just a rumour, one section between the towns of Fines and Albox is already open and they are well on the way to reaching the A7 coastal motorway which covers almosy half of its entire lentgh. It is estimated that the road is to be completed by 2011.
With this in mind we feel now is a good time to be investing in the area in spite of what the doom mongers may say.
Use the map on the right to navigate the area and locate airports, beach resorts, cities etc.

The village of Somontin nestles at the foot of the Sierra Estanicas, a stunning mountain range situated in the Valley de Almanzora in Almeria. It has a population of 550 permanent residents, which rises to in excess of 1000 during the summer months.
This beautiful hamlet is located 831 meters above sea level, so as you can imagine, the panoramic views are spectacular.
The name Somontin derives from the Latin “Summus Montis”, meaning the highest village.

Evermill Construcciones have chosen this fantastic location for our latest development which has been designed to blend in with it's traditional surroundings. Recently voted one of the top ten healthiest places to live by a well known Spanish newspaper, Somontin was praised for the clear mountain air and relaxed pace of life.

Although Somontin is a rural village you have two convenience stores, two bakers, two butchers, doctors surgery, pharmacy, bank, great bars and a fantastic infants and junior school. All amenities are within walking distance from your front door.
There is transportation for the children of the village to attend the secondary school, which is situated in the nearby town of Purchena. Somontin boasts it own pool which is open in the summer months for everyone to enjoy and two water fountains, which provide fresh, drinkable mineral water filtering from natural springs high in the mountains.
The facilities in the village are excellent. There are three children's playgrounds, an indoor sports area and even a football pitch!
Somontin is easily accessible by both Almeria and Granada airports and isjust over an hour from the nearest beach.

The situation of the village is perfect for photographers or artists and offers ideal terrain for walkers and mountain bikers, as well as being the perfect place to relax and unwind. In fact anybody who can appreciate natural beauty and tranquility will adore this place.
Everybody knows that the Spanish love a fiesta and Somontin is no exception — for a small Village, they do it in style and the calendar is full of them!
Our personal favorites would have to be the summer fiesta of “La Virgen de Agosto” with ten days of live music, children's activities, giant paellas, and foam parties, and the fiesta of their patron saint, San Sebastian in January for the ornate processions and street carnivals.
The people of Somontin (known as Somontineros) are friendly and welcoming whether you are a visitor or are lucky enough to call this beautiful place your home.
